CheckNet.

Is it blocked?

The site is opened from networks inside the country and from outside it, next to OONI’s figures for the last month.

How does filtering work?

Filtering in Iran has several layers. The simplest is DNS tampering: when your device asks for the address of a blocked site, the provider’s DNS server answers with an internal address in 10.10.34.x, which serves the filter page, instead of the real one.

Other layers ignore DNS: connections to the site’s IP are refused or cut, or the provider reads the site name sent in the clear at the start of the connection (SNI) and drops it. That is why changing DNS is not always enough. These results come from Globalping volunteer probes in data centres and networks inside the country and can differ a little from your home or mobile connection.
